In a fitting farewell to the planet that had been its home for over 13 years, the Cassini spacecraft took one last, lingering look at Saturn and its splendid rings during the final leg of its journey and snapped a series of images that has been assembled into a new mosaic.

After more than 13 years at Saturn, and with its fate sealed, NASA's Cassini spacecraft bid farewell to the Saturnian system by firing the shutters of its wide-angle camera and capturing this last, full mosaic of Saturn and its rings two days before the spacecraft's dramatic plunge into the planet's atmosphere.

During the observation, a total of 80 wide-angle images were acquired in just over two hours. This view is constructed from 42 of those wide-angle shots, taken using the red, green and blue spectral filters, combined and mosaicked together to create a natural-color view.

The ice-covered moon Enceladus -- home to a global subsurface ocean that erupts into space -- can be seen at the 1 o'clock position. Directly below Enceladus, just outside the F ring (the thin, farthest ring from the planet seen in this image) lies the small moon Epimetheus. Following the F ring clock-wise from Epimetheus, the next moon seen is Janus. At about the 4:30 position and outward from the F ring is Mimas. Inward of Mimas and still at about the 4:30 position is the F-ring-disrupting moon, Pandora. Moving around to the 10 o'clock position, just inside of the F ring, is the moon Prometheus.

This view looks toward the sunlit side of the rings from about 15 degrees above the ring plane. Cassini was approximately 698,000 miles (1.1 million kilometers) from Saturn, on its final approach to the planet, when the images in this mosaic were taken. Image scale on Saturn is about 42 miles (67 kilometers) per pixel. The image scale on the moons varies from 37 to 50 miles (59 to 80 kilometers) pixel. The phase angle (the Sun-planet-spacecraft angle) is 138 degrees.

She struggles throughout the novel as a female songwriter and musician, competing with the commercial success of the Nashville sound, and the image record labels want to paint of her as a doting, traditional housewife, when she just wants to play her electric guitar.

Cassini's wide-angle camera acquired 42 red, green and blue images, covering the planet and its main rings from one end to the other, on Sept. 13, 2017. Imaging scientists stitched these frames together to make a natural color view. The scene also includes the moons Prometheus, Pandora, Janus, Epimetheus, Mimas and Enceladus.

"It was all too easy to get used to receiving new images from the Saturn system on a daily basis, seeing new sights, watching things change," said Elizabeth Turtle, an imaging team associate at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory, Laurel, Maryland. "It was hard to say goodbye, but how lucky we were to be able to see it all through Cassini's eyes!"

"For 37 years, Voyager 1's last view of Saturn has been, for me, one of the most evocative images ever taken in the exploration of the solar system," said Carolyn Porco, former Voyager imaging team member and Cassini's imaging team leader at the Space Science Institute in Boulder, Colorado. "In a similar vein, this 'Farewell to Saturn' will forevermore serve as a reminder of the dramatic conclusion to that wondrous time humankind spent in intimate study of our Sun's most iconic planetary system."

Finally, there is a great tradition of warnings in Presidential farewells, and I've got one that's been on my mind for some time. But oddly enough it starts with one of the things I'm proudest of in the past 8 years: the resurgence of national pride that I called the new patriotism. This national feeling is good, but it won't count for much, and it won't last unless it's grounded in thoughtfulness and knowledge.

Text description provided by the architects. There is a 99-years-old abandoned Sanheyuan on the site and it will be demolished for a new residential project shortly. We were asked to design a temporary reception center before the construction of the new residential project. We decided to keep the Sanheyuan as part of the spatial design experiment for the reception center and also can be seen as a farewell exhibition for the 99-years-old house.

The film was shot in the widescreen aspect ratio of 2.35:1, meaning the width of the image is far greater than the height, as is evident from the screencap above. What interested me the most is the vertical space used in these images. Above you can see how this type of spacing is employed.

The framing of each image is intentionally crafted in these specific ways. Not only is the entirety of the width of the frame employed, but in each image we see action occurring across multiple planes. In the top image the central focus of the scene plays out in the background between Nai Nai and Billi, who are in focus, while characters in the foreground are preparing dinner and are out of focus.

Again, notice the distance between the characters. Because Wang chose to utilize the mid- and background of this shot, we get to experience the distance between them. The disconnect can be felt through the visuals. These quiet scenes when no one is talking can be so much more powerful when the director knows how to tell the story through the imagery.

This is just a marvelous picture staged with incredibly lush imagery. Billi and Nai Nai are the main focus but Wang uses a mirror, once again, to stretch the depth of the frame. In the back right portion of the frame we can see the supposedly betrothed couple being photographed again, which is both humorous and sad. All these little touches take what could have been a simple, flat frame of two people talking and turns it into an image with multiple emotions.

The family is leaving for the airport and must bid adieu to their beloved Nai Nai. They say their goodbyes and start driving away and Wang delivers the bittersweet image of Nai Nai waving farewell from a mid-shot that gets farther and farther away until we see the sadness overtake her. In the end, she must be comforted by her sister as the car rounds the corner and out of sight.

But Billi comes anyway, eager to be reunited with the family she has not seen since childhood. In China, the family has arranged a fake marriage for a grandson as an excuse to get all the family members together for their collective farewell to Nai Nai.

The photomicrograph derived from the reservoir formation data indicates a the image shows Quartz and Feldspar as the main detrital components. Kaolinite (K) is obstructing the pore spaces and thus reducing the porosity and hindering the reservoir quality. b The photomicrograph displays good reservoir quality due to the intergranular porosity (P) and secondary pores resulting from feldspar dissolution. Quartz (Q), feldspar (F) and rock fragments (RF) can be seen in the image. Pore bridging (PB) phenomena are also observed due to biotite (B) but have not that much affected the reservoir quality. c The image illustrates a poor reservoir quality due to clay minerals like chlorite (C), biotite and muscovite completely occluding the pores. Quartz (Q) feldspar (F) and volcanic rock fragments (VRF) are also observed as the detrital minerals in the photomicrograph. d The image displays a very good reservoir quality due to presence of hybrid pores (HP), secondary (SP) and intergranular pores (P). The pore bridging and pore-filling due to rock fragments carbonates and clay can also be seen in the photomicrograph but has not impeded the reservoir quality

a The poorly sorted, coarse-grain, quartz-bearing sandstone are shown. The connectivity of the intergranular pores is shown. The photomicrograph also indicates the grain dissolution, resulting in secondary and hybrid pores of variable size. The clay filling the pore spaces can also be seen. Overall, the photomicrograph displays a moderate to a good reservoir quality. b The photomicrograph indicates the occurrence of quartz and feldspar as the major detrital minerals. The image overall illustrates a poor reservoir quality because of clay and carbonate cement, filling and bridging the pore spaces. The presence of some of the isolated pores can also be seen in the photomicrograph. c The photomicrograph illustrates quartz and felspar as the major detrital components. The presence of intergranular and secondary pore network can also be observed. The photomicrograph demonstrates a fair reservoir quality even though clay minerals are filling the pore spaces

The president, in brief remarks to kick things off, said he and the first lady invited John to come and perform at the White House when he was stopping in DC on his farewell concert tour. He spoke about how with his music, John helped so many find their voices and he changes so many lives. 041b061a72
