Meet The Founder
Dr. LaTacia Ruff (pronounced LaTasha) is the founder of CHOICE Counseling and Consulting, PLLC. She is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor-Supervisor (LCMHC-S) in North Carolina and has been a professional in the helping field for ten years.
Tacia, as she prefers to be called, was first inspired to work in this field as an undergraduate student. She started with the goal of wanting to help young adults who were struggling with learning who they were and being comfortable with their choices. Over time she worked with various populations, including children, adults, and couples, and developed a passion for ensuring that all people have access to information and strategies that will assist them in transforming their lives.
Tacia is trained in the following therapeutic modalities: Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT); Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR); Motivational Interviewing; and Person-Centered Thinking. She is also a certified Mental Health First Aid Instructor. Her professional background has also prepared her to help organizations take practical steps with stress management education and developing programs that meet their needs, interests and support their goals to improving their mental health and work relationships.
Often clients seek sessions with Tacia to learn how to gain control over their circumstances by addressing health, work/life balance, and personal challenges in an environment where they feel respected, protected and empowered. Lovingly dubbed “Tacia Time,” she describes her approach to counseling as direct but laced with genuine care and concern. She clears a space for both she and her clients to lead with and lean into being honest at all times. Additionally, she understands that every strategy may not work for every case; thus, she is unwavering in her pursuit to help each person find the fit that is right for them.
These beliefs and experiences have led Tacia to provide mental health and other supportive services for outpatient treatment facilities, community mental health agencies, educational institutions (elementary through post-secondary), correctional facilities, and home-based therapy.
Tacia holds a doctoral degree in Counseling Education and Supervision. She is based in Charlotte, North Carolina, and is a wife and mother of three.
